Take aim and feel the Arabic Tradition of Archery – A sport with power, grace and magnificence

The tradition of archery goes way back in Arabia. Primarily used as a means of hunting and defense, archery has raw power in it and with this power there is both grace and magnificence. Although movies may make archery look like a breeze, both drawing the bow and shooting is actually rather tough and requires a good deal of strength to perfect the art. To get the hang of archery, practice is required and the best part about Emirates is that it provides plenty of opportunity to unearth ones hidden skills in this magnificent sport.

Part of exploring UAE is taking in the lifestyle of the tribesman. You may have had camel milk, rode atop the back of the caravans of the desert and ate and slept among Bedouins but nothing seals the deal like holding a bow in your hand and trying your shot at archery. It is one of the few sports where you can feel the power of the yesteryears. Since it is one activity so popular among the visitors, many of the hotels in Abu Dhabi offer archery in the resorts Activity center. If you chose the Anantara Sir Bani Yas Island Al Sahel Villa Resort, Abu Dhabi and are basking in the finest of the Abu Dhabi Villas, why not head over to the front desk and inquire a little bit about archery. You will be amazed at the facilities available.

Coaches are always provided and sometimes personalized classes are even offered. Be very attentive about the safety measures because although it looks really fun it is a rather dangerous sport; part of why it is so exciting to try out. At first archery may seem tough but persevere because the real fruits await after you truly get the hang of handling the equipment. Amidst the backdrop of rolling gold and the hot crisp breeze of Arabia drawing the bow and shooting would make you feel like conquering the desert somewhere back time.

The Half Marathon is 21km long while runners can also take part in the 10km Road Race or the 3km long Family Run. Anyone above the age of 16 can take part in the marathon while the Road Race is open to those above 13 years of age.
